Woody Grains with High Gloss

Classy and exciting – the high gloss finish is the latest interior design trend this season. Use it on your bed and wardrobe panels or to create the kitchen of your dreams! Achieve the look by combining wooden grains like walnut or ebony and match it up with neutral tones of warm greys, earthy beige, brilliant white or ivory in high gloss finish.  Furniture in these contrasting colours is in vogue and most popular in this category is the Ebony and Ivory look that creates a bold bedroom.

Modular Kitchens with Colour and Class

Beautifully finished sleek modular kitchen cabinets in high gloss are increasingly in demand. Dark coloured base units with lighter overhead cabinets create a bit of drama and depth to your cooking areas. Dark walnut woody grain combined with brownish grey in high gloss looks really stunning. Rich purple with muted grey gloss cabinets are a show stopping combination too. Great options are available in laminates which are easy to clean and maintain. Use of metalics in steel or rose gold finish as highlighters also ads a touch of glamour to the entire design concept.

  Jewel Tones and Rich Hues

The emerging colour trends this season are a preference towards moody interiors with darker walls, jewel tones, greens, fuchsia and teal.  Don’t be afraid to accentuate one wall of your bedroom in a deep rich hue. Use jewel tones like emerald green in upholstered headboards and accessories to highlight a furniture piece. Sapphire blue is another colour to consider this season too. Another popular trend in colour options is the use of sophisticated pastels like blush pink, dusty blue and sage. Combine these with neutral tones of grey and beige to create a warm, cozy ambience.

Return of the Classical

Uniquely crafted classical furniture is back. Classical sofas with elaborate curves and ornate designs are going to be the ultimate luxury statement this season. Usage of rich materials and emphasis towards detail make these furniture pieces much sought after. Rose gold accents are the latest addition in these evergreen designs.

Relaxing  Recliners

The hottest trend in living rooms is the use of recliners in leather/leatherette.  What could be better than curling up with a book or watching your favourite show while resting on a cozy recliner? Most popular finishes in recliners are coffee brown leatherette or soothing grey suede. More formal living rooms are trending towards monochrome sofas in leather/leatherette/textured suede fabric. Choose L-Shaped corner sofas for creating larger seating space and use the lounger to relax and unwind.

Majestic Marble Tops

Marble is a luxurious stone that defines the most spectacular interior design trend. Add a touch of class to your dining area with a marble top dining table. Marble tops can fit in well both in modern and traditional décor and will give your dining room an instant uplift. Crystal white is a sure winner as it reflects light and makes your space look bigger.  Combine it with cappuccino brown chairs s to complete the look. Sensational brown hues in marble coupled with a touch of metal will be a statement piece of furniture in your dining space. So go ahead and indulge as marble tops in dining tables are surely here to stay!

 Fascinating Velvet

It is so important to choose one beautiful, show stopping, elegant upholstery fabric. What could be more soft and luxurious that velvet! You just cant ignore velvet this season as it can be used in almost any part of your home. Opt for a living room sofa in textured velvet or relax with a cozy velvet headboard in your bedroom. Neutral colour palettes like dark grey, beige and brown work well in velvet. Add brighter coloured accessories to add interest, depth and drama to your space. Don’t have the budget for an upholstered sofa in velvet? Just go for velvet cushions or a velvet throw instead.

Geometric Patterns

Beautiful geometric patterns are a key trend this season. You will find a wide use of intricate geometric shapes in tiles and wall coverings and can be used both in modern and traditional settings. They can be subtle or can be used to make a statement – just as you want them to be. Wall papers in rich textures can add personality and colour to any room. Rich deep shades like emerald green will add glamour while you may opt for more serene muted shades of blush pink and dove grey for wall coverings too.

  • Splash some colors on those spoons:

Bring out those old wooden spoons from the cabinet and dip dye them with the choice of your color. If you think black and white is worth the fight, go for those colors and if you are fond of vibrant colors, close your eyes and go for neon hues. But remember to color just the handles.

  • Polka Dot Refrigerator Art:

The front door looks a little old but the fridge is working fine. Is that your fridge I am talking about? Well, you don’t have to repaint the entire fridge to remodel it. Just get hold of some contact paper.  Circle punch it, stick it on your fridge door and don’t forget to add some funky looking magnets to improve the look of your fridge. The pop of color in your kitchen will look awesome.

  • Stenciled Kitchen Towels:

Turn plain kitchen towels into funky piece of art. Here’s how. Just take a one-colored kitchen towel, cut design of your choice on a piece of hard paper. We recommend you to use hard paper over regular ones to prevent bleeding of paint into the towel. Then dip your paintbrush into your favorite fabric paint and paint the open areas. Pull the paper away and let the paint dry. Bam! Your DIY is ready for use.

Modular Kitchen Layout Basics – The Types & Designs

Traditionally kitchen layouts were always about the ‘work triangle’ where only one person cooked and his or her space was usually bordered by the range, the sink and the refrigerator on the three sides. Modular kitchen layouts in current times are on the other hand built around the ‘Work zone’ concept which is more practical in the sense that it caters to the multiple-cook and multiple zone inside the kitchen aspect, aiming to create many such comfortable zones inside a kitchen space. Following is the MoBEL’s guide to Modular Kitchen Layouts so that you have the layout basics in place.

One Wall Modular Kitchen Layout: This is the ultimate space optimizing kitchen layout design and can be found in studio apartments, small flats or even lofts. The one wall layout, as the name suggests refer to the layout where all kitchen appliances, cabinets, etc are fixed on one single wall.

Galley Modular Kitchen: Galley kitchen layouts are those where appliances and cabinets are fixed on two walls opposite to each other. Hence, it consists of two parallel countertops with a sort of corridor in between them, ideal for a one-cook scenario and is also commonly called as the ‘walkthrough kitchen’. This layout is one of the most popular since it makes optimum utilization of every inch of space that is available – great for small apartments where such lean and compact arrangements are required.

L Shaped Modular Kitchen: L shaped kitchens are layouts where countertops are not on parallels, but adjoining walls. Hence they are perpendicular to each other, forming an ‘L’ shape. A great layout for medium sized or even small kitchen spaces, this eliminates the corner space optimization issue that most kitchen face. The leg of the L can be as long as one needs depending on floor space but one should keep them within 12-15 ft at max in order to utilize space. The unique point of this layout is that it eliminates traffic completely and in case of bigger spaces, is flexible enough to have islands, a dining space or other work zones added on. However, this should not be used in very big kitchen spaces where other better layouts can be configured.

L Shaped Modular Kitchen

Horseshoe Modular Kitchen Layout: Horseshoe kitchen layout was primarily a design that consisted of kitchen cabinets & appliances on three walls. However, the modern horseshoe has evolved to an L shaped layout with an add-on island space as an alternative to the third wall since it allows free movement around the island.

Island Kitchen Layouts: Modular kitchen layouts where one has an island in the kitchen space are popularly known as the island layouts – a massive hit with people having bigger kitchen spaces. The island almost always has cabinets and storage space built into it and the surface is used for various purposes. The island countertop can be used as an additional workspace if added with a sink, an eating place if added with some stools or even a beverage store with an addition of a wine cooler. Islands are also used to convert a one wall layout into a galley one or an L shaped design into a horseshow one.
